228. To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if she or her Department received or read an academic article entitled, The Representative Sample in the Murphy Report; if it was considered; if any response was issued regarding the observations therein; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department is familiar with the article referred to by the Deputy and its contents have been noted. The article contains a critique of the approach taken by the Commission of Investigation into the Dublin Archdiocese in selecting cases for examination as part of its investigation. The position is that the Commission carried out its functions independently, in accordance with the Commissions of Investigation Act, 2004. Neither I nor my Department has any statutory role in relation to reviewing the work of the Commission and there are no plans to reopen its inquiries or findings.
