To ask the Minister for Health the level of financial supports, or otherwise, available to Irish students hoping to undertake postgraduate studies in audiology in Edinburgh in Scotland in view of the shortage of persons with such qualifications at present; if the associated fees and expenses will be covered or refunded; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Last year the HSE and the Higher Education Authority concluded a process to select a Higher Education Institute to commence domestic training for audiology. University College Cork was the successful institute and its MSc training programme will commence in September 2015. The HSE is supporting UCC via funding for staffing and equipment. The HSE does not have funding available to support students who pursue audiology training in the UK. However, the HSE can organise the clinical training component of their postgraduate studies within clinical sites in Ireland.
