Any person may make a complaint regarding a publication to the independent Censorship of Publications Board in accordance with the provisions of the Censorship of Publications legislation, and in particular the Censorship of Publications Regulations, 1980 (S.I. 292/1980). The Board's only function is to decide whether or not to prohibit a publication. In the event that a publication is prohibited it is an offence to sell or distribute that publication.

I should advise the Deputy, however, that neither my Department nor the Censorship of Publications Board has any power to apply restrictions in relation to the display in retail outlets of items which are not prohibited under Censorship of Publications legislation.
