802. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 1025 of 9 June 2015, in which he stated that there is no provision in law for making changes to the register of electors at a polling station, the reason a local authority could have issued a vote by way of a letter to a person whose name was not on the register, to enable that person to vote on the day of an election / referendum, where that person's name was not on the register of electors; if this action was legal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I refer to the reply to Question No. 1025 of 9 June 2015. The preparation of the Register of Electors is a matter for each local authority as a registration authority. Only those who are on the register of electors are entitled to vote. There is no provision in law for making changes to the register of electors at a polling station.
