The Deputy is referring to a by-law dated 1890. I am not aware if this by-law remains in place and if it relates to trawling in Kenmare Bay. In any case, it would appear, given the date of the by-law, that it would involve only a minimal level of fines for vessels contravening the bye-law. In the event that it remains on the Statute book, it’s enforcement under the Sea Fisheries and Maritime Jurisdiction Act, 2006, is a matter for the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) and the Naval Service.
