449. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the options available to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary who was refused entry to the afforestation scheme due to the presence on the site of archaeological remains, and where such a person is unable to farm his land and is refused farm assist, due to not actively farming the land; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The application by the person named under the Afforestation Scheme was refused on environmental grounds and because of the archaeological importance of the site and the potential for the discovery of further subsurface remains. The person named appealed against this decision and the views of the National Monuments Service were requested as part of the review of the application. It is anticipated that this review will be concluded in the near future and the person named will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.
The entitlement or otherwise of the person named to social welfare payments is a matter for the Department of Social Protection.
