The Health Information and Quality Authority is the independent authority established under the Health Act 2007 to drive continuous improvement and to monitor safety and quality in Ireland’s health and personal social care services. Since 2009 all nursing homes - public, voluntary and private have been registered and inspected by HIQA.

HIQA reports from inspections carried out on 30 June 2014 and 4 September 2014 at the designated centre referred to by the Deputy were published in October. A further inspection was carried out on 28 November and the report, which was published in January 2015, indicated improvements in some areas. A further inspection took place on 12 March 2015.

The Authority is continuing to inspect the designated centre to assess whether the registered provider is in compliance with the regulations and standards; and is regulating the provider in accordance with its Enforcement Policy.
