Carer’s allowance (CA) is an income support paid to individual carers, aged 18 or over, living with and providing full time care and attention to a care recipient who requires such full-time care and attention. In certain limited circumstances, CA may also be paid to a non-resident carer – for example, in cases there is a direct means of communication between the carer's residence and that of the care recipient.

In relation to participation in community employment (CE) schemes, CA is not paid to people who are also in receipt of an allowance for participating in CE schemes.
