167. To ask the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation the implications for serving and retired public servants under the aegis of his Department of the single euro payments area payments clearing and settlement system being closed on 1 May 2015; if arrangements are being made to ensure that persons receive their entitlements on the due date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The European Central Bank, and therefore the Irish Central Bank, does not operate on May Day, which this year falls on Friday 1st May. Although Irish banks are open for business on 1st May, it is not possible to exchange payments with other banks, given that there is no Euro payment clearing system available on this day. As my Department is due to pay weekly paid staff on Friday 1 May, 2015 alternative arrangements have been put in place to process this payment to beneficiaries one day earlier, on Thursday 30 April 2015.
