To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine further to Parliamentary Question No. 142 of 26 March 2015, if he will confirm the European Union regulatory basis for a verification visit under the single payment schemes and under the basic payment scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. EU regulations governing the Direct Payment Schemes and other area based schemes requires my Department to carry-out administrative and on-the-spot checks to ensure that the land declared for aid is eligible for payment. The regulations further require that a physical inspection in the field is undertaken in the event that it is not possible to make an accurate determination on the eligibility or the correct size of a parcel or parcels of land by means of an assessment of the available ortho-im agery, Article 24(3) of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 809/2014 refers.
