To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he will have the condition of the erosion damaged pier at Maharecs in Castlegregory in County Kerry investigated, as it is disintegrating at the base, and chunks of concrete and re-inforcing rods are breaking off and are a danger to children who swim at the pier and to boats tied up at the pier; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department does not have responsibility for the pier at Maharees, which is owned by Kerry County Council. The responsibility for its development, repair and maintenance rests with that Local Authority. I would therefore direct the deputy to contact the Local Authority in the first instance with regard to this matter.
