It is longstanding policy that private interests may develop airports in whatever location they wish, provided that the requirements of the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) are met and that planning permission is secured. However, it should be noted that Ireland has sufficient capacity in existing State-owned airports and non State-owned regional airports to cater for existing and future aviation demand. There are no plans for the provision of an extra airport by the State.
