965. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his plans to allocate funding to establish a national ice arena in view of the increase in popularity of sports played on ice, both recreationally and at competitive level, in recent years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 974. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport further to a statement by the Minister of State at his Department with Special Responsibility for Tourism and Sport that funds are not available to support a facility to cover ice sports, if he will reconsider this position in view of the fact that such a facility could be used for commercial and sporting use; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 965 and 974 together.

There is no funding at the present time for a national ice arena.

On Tuesday 10 March I was delighted to announce the opening of the 2015 round of the Sports Capital Programme.

I would advise all those who are interested to ensure that they are registered on the online system before 5pm on Friday 10 April 2015 (if not already registered) and to submit their online applications well in advance of the deadline of 5pm on Friday 24 April 2015.
