Social housing is a key priority for the Government, evidenced by the additional €2.2 billion in funding announced for it in Budget 2015. Accordingly, the Social Housing Strategy 2020,published in November 2014, sets ambitious targets for supply and reform of the sector. Given the scale of the challenge in the Dublin area, a key early action of the Strategy was the establishment of a Dublin Social Housing Delivery Taskforce (DSHDT), to oversee and drive the Strategy’s implementation across the four Dublin local authorities. The Strategy is available on my Department’s website at the following link: . An important early action for the DSHDT under the Strategy is Action 4 which involves the agreement of targets for the delivery of social housing units in the four Dublin local authority areas for 2015, and in subsequent years. This work is well underway and is due to conclude in the coming weeks, in line with the quarter 1 2015 timeline set out in the Strategy, as part of the overall national target-setting process.

Full details regarding the Taskforce’s role and its terms of reference are set out at paragraph 4.3 of the Strategy. Membership of the Taskforce is set out in the table below:

Mr Daniel McLoughlin (Chair) Chief Executive South Dublin County Council
Mr Owen Keegan Chief Executive Dublin City Council
Mr Paul Reid Chief Executive Fingal County Council
Ms Philomena Poole Chief Executive Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council
Ms Bairbre Nic Aongusa Assistant Secretary,

Housing Division
Department of the Environment, Community & Local Government
Mr John O'Connor CEO Housing Agency
Mr Donal McManus CEO Irish Council for Social Housing

The Taskforce meets on a monthly basis and two meetings have taken place since its establishment. The Taskforce reports directly to the Strategy Oversight Group, which I chair.
