533. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government the reason a project (details supplied) in County Mayo which has received State funding is refusing to accept tenants from a local authority; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3683/15]

The issue raised concerns moving existing Rental Accommodation Scheme and Local Authority tenants that have been nominated by Mayo County Council, into a new development provided under the Capital Assistance Scheme. The charging of rent is, in the first instance, a matter for the approved housing body concerned; however, housing authorities have a clear right of consultation in relation to the fixing of rents generally, and the rents should be fair and equitable in respect of the development.

I understand that Mayo County Council has been in regular contact with the approved housing body concerned in an effort to secure agreement on the rent levels.
