To ask the Minister for Social Protection the number of children whose parents heretofore were in receipt of domiciliary care allowance who are reaching 16 years of age qualified for invalidity pension or disability allowance thereafter in the past 12 months; the number of such applications rejected; and if she will make a statement on the matter. In relation to disability allowance the number of children who qualified whose parents had previously been in receipt of domiciliary care allowance is 1064.

The number of applications rejected is 299. This is for the twelve month period up to 30/11/14.

Invalidity pension is a payment for insured people who are permanently incapable of work due to illness or incapacity. In order to qualify a person must have at least 260 paid PRSI contributions since entering social insurance and 48 contributions paid or credited in the last complete tax year before the date of claim. Therefore it is not possible for a sixteen year old to qualify for this scheme.
