487. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the definition of a commuter route as defined by Iarnród Éireann; if a customer who commutes to a city to work and purchases a yearly ticket should be classed as a commuter and if the route is classed as a commuter route; the reason the Athenry to Galway route is not defined as a commuter route similar to the Hazlehatch to Dublin and Cobh to Cork routes, both of which have considerably cheaper yearly rates than the route from Athenry to Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The issues raised are matters for the National Transport Authority (NTA) in conjunction with Iarnród Éireann and I have forwarded the Deputy's question to the NTA for direct reply.
