450. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the position regarding school transport eligibility in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [45185/14]

The Deputy will be aware that under the terms of my Department's Post Primary School Transport Scheme, children are eligible for transport where they reside not less than 4.8 kilometres from and are attending their nearest education centre as determined by my Department/Bus Éireann, having regard to ethos and language.

The pupil referred to by the Deputy is eligible for transport, however the family only submitted payment details on 16th September 2014 at which stage the service was operating to capacity.

Bus Éireann which operates the School Transport Scheme is currently in the process of re-organising existing and recently sanctioned services and it is envisaged that there will be additional capacity to accommodate a number of pupils who are not currently availing of school transport.

In this regard the family in question should liaise with their local Bus Éireann office at 0906 - 473277.
