255. To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the position in relation to the closure of a Garda station (details supplied) in County Galway; if its current capacity following the opening of the new Garda divisional headquarters in Murrough, County Galway, will be maintained; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The formulation of proposals in relation to the opening and closing of Garda stations is a matter, in the first instance, for the Garda Commissioner in the context of her annual policing plans, as provided for in section 22 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005.

I am advised by the Garda authorities that the allocation of Garda resources, including accommodation and personnel, is subject to ongoing analysis and review to ensure that the best use is made of available resources. I am further informed that, in the context of the provision of a new Regional Garda Headquarters at Murrough, the policing requirements of the Galway Division will be fully examined to ensure that an effective and efficient policing service continues to be delivered. I am further advised by the Garda Commissioner that there is no intention to close the station referred to by the Deputy.
