To ask the Minister for Social Protection if she will provide incrementally the number of persons in receipt of rent allowance in County Westmeath for the current year and previous two years living in the reconfigured LEAs of Mullingar/Kilbeggan, Mullingar/Coole and Athlone and the previous LEAs of Mullingar west, Mullingar east and Athlone. The purpose of the rent supplement scheme is to provide short-term income support to assist with reasonable accommodation costs of eligible people living in private rented accommodation who are unable to provide for their accommodation costs from their own resources. There are approximately 72,500 rent supplement recipients for which the Government has provided over €344 million for 2014.

Statistics on rent supplement recipients are maintained on a County basis. The number of rent supplement recipients currently in payment in County Westmeath and for the previous 2 years is provided in the attached tabular statement.
