To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Catalan President, with the support of the Catalan Parliament, has signed a decree to hold a referendum on independence on 9 November 2014 and that the Spanish Government has declared it will block this democratic vote; his views on the right of the Catalan persons to democratically decide their own future. Arrangements for the governance of any EU Member State are a matter for determination through that country’s democratic processes. Hence, it would not be appropriate for me to comment on such processes in any particular Member State of the European Union.
