To ask the Minister for Health the actions that will be taken by his Department in conjunction with the Health Service Executive to ensure that the recommendations of the report issued in April 2008 following the review completed by the Diabetes Expert Advisory Group can be implemented in practice, in particular the recommendation to have one nurse specialist per 100 children or adolescents with diabetes; and to improve on the current ratio of one nurse specialist per 250 children or adolescents with diabetes. The matters mentioned by the Deputy are, among other things, a function of the availability of additional resources, which are examined in the context of the HSE National Service Plan as part of the annual Estimates process.
As this is a service matter it has been referred to the HSE for a direct reply to the Deputy.
