To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if she will provide details, for each of the years 2011, 2012 and 2013 of the number of different instances in which counterfeit euro notes have been seized by or have come into the possession of the Garda; and the total notional value of euros involved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the table below shows the number of different instances in which counterfeit euro notes have been seized, or come into the possession of the Gardaí for years 2011 to 2013. It should be noted that not all counterfeit currency is seized by, or comes into the possession of the Gardaí. In many incidents, the counterfeit currency is inadvertently presented to a bank for lodgement by retail outlets, where it is discovered and seized and forwarded to the Central Bank. Insofar as the notional value of the seized counterfeit euros is concerned, I am advised that the compilation of this information requires the manual extraction of data from individual entries on PULSE and the information in relation to 2012 and 2013 is not available at this juncture. The notional value of counterfeit euro notes seized by An Garda Síochána in 2011 is €53,020.
