539. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a dog pound (details supplied) in County Clare is killing dogs through intra-cardiac injection with no sedation given; if he will confirm that the practice is no longer being used; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the Control of Dogs Act 1986 as amended by the Control of Dogs (Amendment) Act 1992, local authorities are responsible for all matters relating to dog control and dog pounds. I have referred this matter to the relevant local authority who inform me that the practice of euthanizing dogs in the manner described is no longer taking place at the dog pound.
