458. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government when a fund will be set up for the fixing of social housing affected by pyrite, in view of the fact that the current PRB scheme only applies to private housing. [30711/14]

My Department is committed to working closely with local authorities in addressing issues around pyrite-related structural defects in social housing units. In some instances the remediation of pyrite-related defects is being addressed within the terms of the construction contract. Where necessary, my Department will provide financial assistance to local authorities in cases where pyrite remediation proposals are included in the annual work programmes put forward by local authorities for funding under the Social Housing Investment Programme.

459. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government his plans to repair the homes of social housing tenants of Respond in Parnell estate, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15 in view of the fact that they have been paying full rent to Respond, despite the pyrite related deficiencies in their homes and resulting extra heating costs. My Department understands that Respond Housing Association are dealing with this matter in the context of the terms and conditions of the construction contract for the housing scheme. There are no proposals with my Department in relation to this matter.

To ask again the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government his plans to repair the homes of social housing tenants of Respond in Parnell estate, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15

The houses in Parnell have pyrite problems and Respond are dealing with the issue since 2011 but it is very very slow. In a meeting RESPOND! have still not told in what year they will resolve the issue. It may be after 3,5,10,20 year or sometime after…

Mr Donnelly said “I was recently canvassing in the Parnell estate and was shocked at the condition of some of the housing units rented out by Respond! housing association. There were many tales of doors jamming, huge cracks in walls and ceilings, pipes bursting and rising concrete slabs both inside and outside the houses”.

And it is getting WORSE!
