440. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine with regard to the proposed GLAS scheme his views on the process of getting agreement of 50% or 80% of active commonage shareholders in the preparation of a GLAS plan; the way a planner would be selected in view of the fact that many individual farmers have used different planners over the years. The preparation of a GLAS plan by one planner will ensure a consistent standard of intervention is delivered across the entire area of the commonage. GLAS is a voluntary agri-environmental scheme. Discussion amongst potential applicants, including the choice of approved planner, will be a matter for the active shareholders to consider in the context of their collective approach to commonage management.
