467. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government the minimum period a local authority social housing unit must be vacant before the local authority can avail of or seek funding from his Department for the repair or improvement of that vacant unit; and if he will make a statement on the matter. While the assessment process for this scheme did prioritise length of time dwellings were vacant, no minimum time was set for a housing unit to be vacant before it was considered for funding. Funding was allocated on an equitable and evidence based system, adjudicated and weighted under a number of criteria, including the degree of local housing need, the number of void properties, the cost effectiveness of the proposal and the length of time the property had been vacant.
