152. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government for each local authority, using information at their disposal under the commercial rates system, if he will provide details of the number of commercial properties currently vacant; the overall rateable valuation and the amount of rates not being collected as a result in respect of such properties; the amount of rates arrears due in respect of such vacant commercial properties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department does not hold or collect the information requested. Local authorities are under a statutory obligation to levy rates on any property used for commercial purposes in accordance with the details entered in the valuation lists prepared by the independent Commissioner of Valuation under the Valuation Act 2001. The levying and collection of rates are matters for each individual local authority.
