To ask the Minister for Health in respect of the Health Act 1970 the provision of ophthalmic services for children where there is a requirement for a higher specification of lenses or frames that the cost must be bourne by the person themselves; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Ophthalmic treatment and appliances are available to children, as provided for in the Health Act, 1970. The HSE provides standard frames and/or lenses to children free of charge. The additional cost of higher specification lenses or frames is not covered by the HSE.
