99. To ask the Minister for Social Protection the position regarding an appeal for carer's allowance in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Mayo; if same will be expedited due to the hardship the delay is causing the family; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23853/14]

The Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised me that an appeal by the person concerned was referred to an Appeals Officer on 30 May 2014, who will make a summary decision on the appeal based on the documentary evidence presented or, if required, hold an oral hearing.
If the means of the person concerned are insufficient to meet her needs she should contact her Community Welfare Officer regarding her possible entitlement to supplementary welfare allowance.
The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister for Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements.
