640. To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if a person who is on parental leave from work can accumulate annual leave entitlements while on parental leave; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22553/14]

I would draw the Deputy's attention to section 14 of the Parental Leave Act 1998, which provides that all employment rights (with the exception of the right to remuneration or superannuation benefits, or any obligation to pay contributions in or in respect of the employment), are protected while on parental leave. A period of time spent on parental leave accordingly reckons towards calculation of annual leave entitlements. I have no proposals to change this entitlement.
