225. To ask the Minister for Health the total number of medical cards as of 1 May 2014 or later if available; the total number of GP cards on the same date; and the total number for each type of card issued on a discretionary basis on that date. [21901/14]

I am advised by the HSE that, according to most recent statistics available at 1 April 2014, the number of persons with medical card eligibility was 1,799,103, including 49,596 where discretion was involved in the assessment. The number of persons with GP visit card eligibility was 120,981, including 29,080 where discretion was involved in the assessment.
