The Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised me that an appeal by the person concerned was referred to an Appeals Officer on 16thApril 2014, who will make a summary decision on the appeal based on the documentary evidence presented or, if required, hold an oral hearing.

The Social Welfare Appeals Office has advised me that a Carer’s Allowance appeal and a Supplementary Welfare Allowance appeal from the person concerned were registered in that office on the 13thNovember 2013 and 28thApril 2014 respectively.
I am advised by the Social Welfare Appeals Office that an oral hearing in respect to the Carer’s Allowance appeal of the person concerned took place on the 23rdApril 2014 and that the Appeals Officer is now considering the appeal in the light of all of the evidence submitted, including that adduced at the oral hearing. The person concerned will be notified of the Appeals Officer’s decision when that appeal has been determined.
It is a statutory requirement of the appeals process that the relevant Departmental papers and comments by the Deciding Officer on the grounds of the person’s concerned Supplementary Welfare Allowance appeal be sought. When these papers have been received from the Department, the case in question will be referred to an Appeals Officer who will make a summary decision on the appeal based on the documentary evidence presented or, if required, hold an oral appeal hearing.
The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister for Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements.
