The Castletown Estate was originally donated to the State in 1994, by the Castletown Foundation, for a consideration of £10.00 The Office of Public Works (OPW) took over the management of Castletown House and Demesne in 2004, and prior to this the property was in the care of, and administered by, the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands; the Minister for Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs; and finally the Minister for the Environment, Heritage, & Local Government.
Since 2004, it is estimated that the total annual outlay by the Office of Public Works on preservation, conservation, presentation, guiding, upgrading, maintenance, landscaping, security and administration is as follows:
