738. To ask the Minister for Health if he will set out the membership of the newly-formed national review group of maternity services; if he will confirm that this includes lay representatives from the maternity services implementation group from the west-north-west hospitals group and childbirth support groups such as AIMSI, the Home Birth Association and Cuidiú. My Department, in conjunction with the HSE, is preparing a National Maternity Strategy which will provide the strategic direction for the optimal development of safe and high quality maternity services. The Strategy will incorporate a review and evaluation of our services and therefore provide us with the opportunity to take stock of current services and identify how the quality and safety of care provided to women and their babies can be further improved. A national review group has not been established. However as part of the development of the Strategy, it is proposed to elicit the views of relevant stakeholders on the future direction of services.
