Killybegs Fishery Harbour Centre is one of the six designated Fishery Harbour Centres, which are owned, managed and maintained by my Department. My Departments Engineering Division are actively progressing the development of the Small Craft Harbour in Killybegs and a planning application was lodged with Donegal County Council on 19 December 2013.

In the interim a wave monitoring buoy and floating breakwater have been installed on site to assist in the ongoing wave climate evaluation. It is anticipated that the project will be delivered over a number of years, depending on available exchequer funding and competing national priorities.

€187,000 has been spent on the project to date, overall the project cost is estimated to be €1.5 million which will be subject to detailed design and public tendering.

On 20 March, under the 2014 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme, I approved €500,000 in funding this year to further advance the project.
