To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform his views on whether the Aer Lingus deferred pensioners who are not part of a union had their issues sufficiently represented at negotiations; if he will ensure their issues will be addressed in upcoming negotiations in relation to their pension scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As I am not the Minister with responsibility for issues in the aviation sector, I am not in a position to comment on negotations, if any, on matters arising in that sector.  In general however, the Trustees of the pension scheme, who are central to any solution of any funding difficulties in relation to a pension scheme, are required by law to act in the best interests of all the members. On that basis the Trustees should take account of the interests of the deferred, active and pensioner members in any proposals they make. I also understand that the issue of the representation of pensioners and deferred pensioners in industrial relations disputes relating to pensions is a matter that is under active discussion between the Departments of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and Social Protection.
