611. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the reason that forestry management regulations are being proposed as legislation prior to the publication of a draft of the proposed forestry policy; the proposed publication of the draft forestry policy; and the consultation time envisaged for the draft forestry policy. The forest policy review has been completed and will be published shortly. As part of the Strategic Environmental Assessment of the review, consultation took place with statutory environmental authorities at scoping stage which was followed by a full consultation round open to the public. At the beginning of the review process there was a call for public submissions. There is no conflict between the recommendations on forest management plans in the forest policy and the proposals in the Forestry Bill.
