I confirm that the Department received an application for carer’s allowance from the person in question on the 1st November 2013. The person concerned was refused carer’s allowance on the grounds that the care recipient is not so disabled as to require full time care and attention as prescribed in regulations. She was notified of this decision on the 15th of January 2014. The person in question subsequently submitted further medical evidence for review, which was forwarded to the Department’s medical assessor for consideration. However, this information did not alter the opinion of the deciding officer and the decision remained unchanged. The person in question was notified of the outcome of the review on the 5th of February 2014 and of her right to appeal the decision to the Social Welfare Appeals Office.
