An application for domiciliary care allowance was received from the person concerned on the 18th September 2013. This application was referred to one of the Department’s Medical Assessors, who provided an opinion that the child was not medically eligible for the allowance. A letter issued on the 7th October 2013 advising of the decision to disallow the application.

The person concerned subsequently lodged an appeal against this decision. As part of the appeal process, the case was reviewed by a second Medical Assessor on the 10th February 2014. Their opinion was that the child was not medically eligible for the allowance. As the deciding officer does not consider that a revision of the original decision is warranted, the file will now be forwarded to the Social Welfare Appeals Office for the appeal to be processed.
