To ask the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation if he will provide details on companies in County Waterford, including company names, number of jobs created and type of support received that have received support from his Department for each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for statistical information rests with the Central Statistics Office However, I understand that the CSO does not compile statistics on jobs created on a county basis. As regards jobs created, the only figures available to my Department are those in respect of jobs created, on a county basis, in client companies of the Enterprise Development Agencies under the aegis of my Department.

Table 1, accompanying this reply, provides details of jobs created, since 2009 in companies in Co. Waterford that were supported by Enterprise Ireland (EI) and IDA Ireland and, from 2010 onwards, in the case of companies supported by Waterford County and City Enterprise Boards .

It should be noted that the data in the Forfás Annual Employment Survey, which is the active time series and the source for the data relating to EI and IDA-supported companies, can change year-on-year. For example, companies that enter the population or have transferred agency, have the opportunity to revisit numbers for the previous year when they are completing the Survey. As these figures are compiled on an annualised basis, the figures for 2013 are expected to be published in April 2014.

Details of companies in Co. Waterford in receipt of payments from Enterprise Ireland for 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 are set out in Table 2 accompanying this reply. The information on company payments relating to 2013 is prepared as part of the process for the finalisation of Enterprise Ireland’s Annual Report and Accounts. These audited figures will be made available on publication, later this year, in Enterprise Ireland’s Annual Report 2013.

Details of companies in receipt of payments from IDA Ireland for 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 are set out in Table 3 accompanying this reply. It should be noted that grants paid by IDA Ireland in a particular year are not necessarily linked to either the investments won or the jobs created in that year. IDA Ireland does not make details of grants paid to individual companies publicly available. Details of grants paid for 2013 should be known in July 2014.

The information requested by the Deputy regarding company names and type of support received relates to operational matters within the County Enterprise Boards . Details of the companies supported by Waterford City and County Enterprise Boards, including the type of support received, are published in their Annual Reports. These Reports are laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas once the accounts are cleared by the Comptroller and Auditor General. The details of grants paid for the period in question are not immediately available. However, I will arrange for the information to be conveyed to the Deputy as soon as possible.

It should also be noted that prior to 2010, the CEBs could only report on the number of jobs existing in CEB-supported companies. In 2010, the CEBs’ data recording system was changed, thereby enabling them to produce figures for jobs existing, job gains and job losses for the years from 2010 onwards.
