606. An ongoing programme of works preparing the site of the former military barracks in Kildare town for disposal has been in place for some time. Works carried out to-date include securing the perimeter, removal of rubbish, disposal of some surplus metal sheeting, removal of some trees on health and safety grounds and a general clean up of the site. It is not proposed to demolish any of the existing buildings in advance of the disposal of the site.

As the Deputy will be aware part of the site is in the process of being disposed of to the Department of Education & Skills for the provision of a school. Once the necessary legal paperwork has been completed it is proposed to auction the remainder of the site before the end of the year.
