585. To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if the Courts Service has plans for the closed courthouse in a town (details supplied) in County Mayo; if there have been any approaches to the court service regarding the premises; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8284/14]

Under the provisions of the Courts Service Act 1998, management of the courts is the responsibility of the Courts Service which is independent in exercising its functions. However, in order to be of assistance to the Deputy, I have had enquiries made and have been informed that the courthouse is no longer used for court sittings. The Courts Service has indicated that it is prepared to offer the property to the local authority, the Office of Public Works or another public body for public use. The Courts Service has been in contact with the Office of Public Work and Mayo County Council about the future use of the courthouse. I am also informed that there have been no other approaches to the Courts Service about the premises.
