In July 2013, I received representations on behalf of the three groups in question applying for the use of the former Garda station in Ardagh. I responded to those representation to confirm that the property was among forty former stations that the Commissioners had identified for disposal. Ganly Walters Auctioneers have been appointed to sell the property by public auction in March 2014. If there is no interest in the public auction, the property may be considered for the purposes of an application under the community scheme.

255. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he will confirm the stage of an application by an association (details supplied) to acquire the recently closed Rathowen Garda station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6835/14]

The Commissioners of Public Works considered the proposal submitted by the association to use the former Garda station at Rathowen, County Westmeath. An assessment of the property by my officials found it to be unsuitable for assignment to the community because of the existing complexity of the shared services arrangement with a neighbouring property.
