243. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if there are circumstances where it is permitted for a public servant on an incremental salary scale to move up the scale by more than one point in any given year; if his Department has a policy in this matter; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this practice is occurring in some units of the public service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In the context of the civil service it is the policy for staff to progress on incremental salary scales on the basis of a single point per annum. The position on incremental salary progression elsewhere in the public service is a matter in the first instance for the particular bodies concerned and their relevant parent Department.
