The HSE has responsibility for the recruitment of nurses and can recruit staff in exceptional circumstances, where it has been established that there is an urgent service requirement and that this can be accommodated within the budgetary constraints and overall employment ceiling.

Regarding the current position relating to nurse recruitment, as this is a service matter it has been referred to the Health Service Executive for direct reply to the Deputy.
