Work on the Value for Money and Policy Review of youth work funding schemes is well advanced and nearing completion. This is a comprehensive review which deals with the complex matter of evaluating human services delivered to youth populations and therefore requires significant and detailed examination.

The process includes engagement with the Steering Committee appointed for this review by Department of Public Expenditure and Reform as well as engagement with sectoral interests. It further involves analysis of complex data and visits to projects. There are also a number of administrative and quality checks to be completed in consultation with the Steering Committee before the review can be finalised.

This important review will shape the future direction of youth funding and will ensure quality effective value-for-money services that secure best outcomes for young people. It will also inform the development of a new Youth Strategy which is currently being developed by my Department.

I look forward to the finalisation of the Review and its findings in the first quarter of 2014 and to making it available as soon as is practical.
