Northburg Castle at Greencastle, Co. Donegal is not in the care of the Office of Public Works (OPW) National Monuments Service and there are therefore no plans to include it in the OPW National Monuments Service 2014 Works Programme.
The question of including Northburg on the list of National Monuments in State care is a matter for the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in the first instance which is responsible for policy matters in relation to Heritage and any such decision must have regard to the availability of resources within the OPW to manage such an additional workload.
