486. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government the contingency plans his Department has to continue to deliver essential services in the event of a local authority becoming insolvent; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [50718/13]

It is a matter for each local authority to determine its own spending priorities in the context of the annual budgetary process having regard both to locally identified needs and available resources. It is a requirement for all local authorities to continue to deal in a prudent manner with their finances and to find expenditure savings and efficiencies, particularly in the context of their 2014 budgets.
