In 2010, the then Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government recommended that permission be refused by Offaly County Council for the extension proposed in the case referred to by the Deputy. The reason for this recommendation was that the extension would involve groundworks that would impact on a possible early ecclesiastical enclosure within an area of archaeological constraint associated with a recorded monument under the National Monuments Acts.

Representatives of my Department’s National Monuments Service will be pleased to meet the committee in question on request.
